The Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive insect, is relatively new to the United States. It arrived in 2002 in the Detroit area and has killed millions of ash trees. Unfortunately Minnesota has one of the largest populations (900 million) of ash trees in the country. The insect was found in St. Paul near the U of MN-St. Paul Campus in May of 2009. Since the finding, 70 trees have been removed due to the infestation. The tiny insect has not yet been found outside of the 2 mile area of the original infestation.
Because this is a new pest in the area, this information is constantly changing. For the most up to date information, contact one of our ISA Certified Arborists.
