Our staff is trained and certified for their safety and your protection. We have 22 International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborists, 5 Foresters, one Certified Sports Turf Manager and one Board Certified Master Arborist on staff.

Most often new procedures or treatments can save you money. That's why we are committed to the continual education of our employees, whether it is through pesticide certification, safety and customer care training, or simply attending industry related conferences.

In addition, we put all new arborists through our climbing class to teach them proper techniques in pruning and climbing. This is taught internally and focuses on safety, consistency and efficiency. This extensive training program is so thorough, that it has attracted other arborists from outside our company to enroll in the program.

The old saying you can only be as good as your tools holds true with our company. At S&S, we continue to upgrade our equipment so that we are working with the latest and best machinery. Newer equipment means fewer breakdowns and a reduced chance of equipment related accidents, so you can be assured of a job done safely and efficiently. We also continue to add to our fleet so that we can service our customers in a timely fashion. With the addition of multiple vibratory plows, we are able to practice the latest techniques in construction site tree preservation and Oak Wilt control.

Take one man's entrepreneurial spirit and incredible work ethic, add family and serve with woodchips. That's pretty much the story of S&S Tree Specialists. Steve Sylvester started S&S Tree Specialists as a general landscaping business in 1976. As a single parent, with two small children, he worked tirelessly alongside his brother-in-law building the foundation for S&S Tree Specialists. Over the next 30 years S&S expanded their service lines adding Plant Healthcare, Turf Care, Premium Quality Mulch and Property Maintenance. These additional services allowed our customers a full range of tree, shrub and lawn care. A continued focus on family values, hard work and customer care have helped us become the largest family owned tree company in Minnesota.

Tree Service in Twin Cities

TCIA Safety Award for Outstanding Company Contribution to Safety
This award was given by the Tree Care Industry Association for our ongoing safety and training for new and returning tree crew members. This class focuses on training tree crew members on safe ways to climb trees and what to do in case of an emergency.

TCIA Excellence in Arboriculture Award
This award was given to S&S for a particularly difficult removal involving a helicopter. A tree was removed from the monkey exhibit at the MN zoo.

MNLA Certificate of Merit for Excellence in Landscape Maintenance
This award was given for a tree preservation project. Valuable trees were identified and preserved through new building construction. Trees that were removed were salvaged and provided as building materials on the interior of the building.
